Foot Pain Q & A
What is foot pain?
Foot pain is any pain in or near your foot. You may feel discomfort in your heels, toes, insteps, arches, ankles, or the soles of your feet, which can make it difficult to move around. You may even need an assistive walking device such as a walker or cane if you have severe foot pain.
What causes foot pain?
Many factors can contribute to foot pain, including:
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Bone spurs
- Tendinitis
- Sprains and strains
- Rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis
- Joint inflammation
- A broken or fractured foot, ankle, or toe
- Nerve damage
- Obesity
- Old age
- Poor walking form or ill-fitting shoes
Depending on what’s causing your foot pain, our team determines which approach is most appropriate for you.
How is foot pain treated?
At BodyWorks Medical Center, the team uses various techniques to ease foot pain and accelerate the healing process:
- Joint Injections to help relieve pain
- Regenerative medicine injections
- Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections
- Rehabilitation exercises
- Soft tissue therapy
- At home exercises
If your foot pain is due to a minor injury or surgery, simply resting your foot, applying ice for a few days, and elevating it may help alleviate your pain. Our team can let you know if further action is necessary.
Strengthening and stretching exercises
The BodyWorks Medical team might instruct you on certain strengthening and stretching exercises that can help a foot injury heal faster. They may use a TheraBand resistance band to improve your strength and to increase your range of motion.
Kinesio Taping®
The BodyWorks Medical team may also use Kinesio Taping to treat foot pain. During this form of therapy, your provider applies flexible athletic tape to the injured area of your foot to reduce inflammation, offer extra support, and enhance healing.
Bracing or custom orthotics
In some cases, the team may recommend a brace for your foot or ankle or custom orthotics to wear inside your shoes to ease pain during the healing process. Wearing a brace or using custom orthotics, especially during physical activity, helps improve your gait and prevent further damage to your foot.
When you’re ready to ease foot pain and get back on your feet, call BodyWorks Medical Center to book an appointment or request one online today.
